Increase in Cyber-Attacks

Cyber-attacks come in many shapes and sizes, but while the vast majority are very basic in nature, carried out by relatively unskilled individuals, a recent trend of cyber-attacks by highly organised and efficient criminal gangs are on the increase. They are the digital equivalent of a thief trying your front door to see if it’s unlocked. Our advice and this certification are designed to help mitigate these attacks.

The most common impacts of these cyber-attacks were lost files or network access, website attacks and system corruption. While there is a direct cost to businesses, the real costs can be much higher in terms of reputation and professionalism.

What is Cyber Essentials?

Cyber Essentials is a UK Government-backed and EU recognised security standard to help organisations protect themselves from the most common cyber threats. Cyber Essentials is a basic level of certification that can be achieved by completing a self-assessment questionnaire, which is verified by Radius Technologies.

Implementing Cyber Essentials Certification can significantly reduce an organisation’s vulnerability to cyber-attacks. Cyber Essentials is for organisations of all sizes and in all sectors. The Cyber Essentials scheme provides businesses with clarity on good basic cybersecurity practice. It focuses on cyber threats which require low levels of attacker skill, and which are widely available online. The scheme specifies five key areas of IT security control that can help to prevent around 80% of known cyber-attacks: –

  • Boundary Firewalls & Internet Gateways – secure your internet connection
  • Secure Configuration – secure your devices and software
  • User Access Control – control access to your data and services
  • Malware and Virus Protection
  • Patch Management – ensuring your devices and software are up to date

Benefits of Cyber Essentials

There are many reasons why companies obtain a Cyber Essentials Certification:

  • Your company is certified as working and delivering to this standard of cyber security which will increase confidence in your company and attract new business
  • Allow you to bid for some Government and private sector contracts that require cyber security certification
  • You have a clear picture of your company’s cyber security level and have closed off the more dangerous and obvious threats
  • Reduces your risk of cyber-attack by up to 80% which will lower disruption costs and the loss of credibility that cyber-attacks bring
  • Potentially reduce your cyber insurance as this certification is recognised by insurers

How to Get Your Cyber Essentials Certificate

It is an easy and affordable process. Contact Radius Technologies and we will talk you through the process. There are 3 steps: –

  • Complete the Self-Assessment Cyber Essentials questionnaire
  • A Radius Technologies authorised Cyber Security Consultant will confirm you have passed
  • Certification will be sent to your company

Radius does recommend you have a run through with one of our engineers to see do you meet the criteria for this assessment – like a pre NCT. This is called a Cyber Essentials Pre – Assessment and for this, there is a charge based on the size of the company and complexity of your IT Systems.

If necessary, Radius will produce a Report and Remediation Plan with all the issues that need to be resolved before the formal application can be made. This can be completed by Radius or your own IT Support Team. If Radius complete these tasks, there will be no need for a second Pre – Assessment.

FAQs

How much does it cost?

The price is €350.00 plus VAT for an annual certification.

Who is authorising this Cyber Essentials Certification?

Radius Technologies are an IASME Certification Body that authorises Cyber Essentials certificates on behalf of the National Cyber Security Centre, UK.

How long does it take?

Once you have signed up, we will send you your portal login within 24 hours. Once you have answered all the questions, we will assess your application and responses within 48 hours and if you pass, you will send you your certificate once it is available from IASME.

If you fail, you will have 48 hours to fix all issues and re-submit your new response to the non – compliant answers. And in this case, there will be no additional fee.

With our Cyber Essential Pre – Assessment service and remediation, you can be assured you will pass.

If we fail, will we get feedback so we can reapply?

All applicants get feedback on any aspect of the assessment which is not fully compliant. You will get a pdf of all the answers you gave and comments from the assessor against any that were considered non-compliant.

If you fail the assessment, this feedback should help you improve your security so you can pass it in the future. We can, of course, advise you and assist you with non-complaint issues to ensure you pass the next time.

Is this an annual certificate?

Yes. We will remind you to reapply one month before your renewal date. All current certificates are listed on the IASME site so your current and potential customers/suppliers can see you listed as having a current Cyber Essentials Certificate.

Radius is here to support you with your assessment

Some of the Cyber Essentials self-assessment questions can be difficult to understand if you do not have a technical IT background or have a complex infrastructure. Radius Technologies will help you understand the assessment questions, how they relate to your company and what steps you need to take to achieve certification.

We can offer consulting services to help you achieve these certifications.

As a Cyber Essentials Certification Body, we are trained and licenced to assess and certify against all levels of the Cyber Essentials scheme and provide the necessary guidance and assistance to organisations aiming to achieve certification.

“We engaged Radius Technologies to carry out a cyber audit so we could become Cyber Essentials compliant. They undertook a Pre Assessment and identified a range of small changes that were needed and brought us to where we needed to be to obtain the certification. The engineering team were very helpful and supportive, taking the time to ensure we understood what was required. The whole process was easy from start to finish and took less time than we had expected. We definitely feel safer now.” – Brian Lowe, Managing Partner, Venture Forward
