Radius Technologies recently implemented a ‘hybrid cloud’ and ‘on premise solution’ for Pittman Traffic & Safety as well as a server virtualisation, which enabled the business to migrate to Navision – the main line of business application. In doing so Radius replaced existing ageing hardware in a seamless and cost effective manner as well as migrating their email system to the cloud.
Pittman Traffic & Safety is a business based in Athy, Co. Kildare. Their website www.pittman.ie supplies a wide range of safety equipment including speed bumps, traffic mirrors, line marking equipment and much more. Their clients include local authorities, schools, retail and construction sectors. They have Irelands largest range of Snickers Work wear online.
Pittman Traffic & Safety had a requirement to move their business to the next level in terms of ERP software (enterprise resource planning), in this case the Navision product. However the existing server was approaching six years of age and would not be at the level required to run the new software. The challenge was to provide a new server and software licencing, as cost effectively as possible, while minimising business interruption and, at the same time providing up to date email access and functionality across a range of devices and from remote locations across the user base.
Radius Technologies provided a suitable HP server (Radius are HP Preferred Partners) with built in redundancy and sufficient RAM for the tasks. The server was configured with Microsoft Hyper V to allow multiple servers to be ‘virtualised’ on this one physical box. The existing (old) server was virtualised and migrated to the new box, while a new Microsoft Server 2012 was also implemented on the new box that would become the new Navision server. The migrations were implemented out of business hours. Meanwhile, the email system was migrated to Microsoft Office 365 (Exchange only) and the devices requiring email functionality (desktops, laptops, smart phones, iPads etc.) were set up accordingly.
Hosting email in the cloud has many benefits, among them automatic backup. This in itself relieves pressure on internal systems and removes a traditional IT headache – email backups. A local NAS box was provided for local backups and added to Radius’s own hosted off site backup solution for critical data, a complete recovery option is in place, giving an element of disaster recovery (DR) in the process.
Brendan Pittman, MD of Pittman Traffic & Safety, stated
“The introduction of the new technologies to our business have brought us to the level that we required and were provided and implemented by Radius Technologies. The work was carried out in a thoroughly professional manner and I am still so impressed that we had zero downtime during the installation. I would have no hesitation in recommending their services.”
